Flamencolitos

Easy Flamenco pieces for guitar

Flamencolitos - Easy Flamenco pieces for guitar + online tracks
scroll down

Flamencolitos is a sheet music album of easy to intermediate performance pieces that are playable without flamenco techniques. Since the fundamental flamenco guitar technique, the so-called "rasgueado", often scares many guitarists and teachers to tackle a flamenco piece, all compositions in this album are provided with instructions for an alternative way of playing, i.e. without "rasgueado". Of course, everything sounds more authentic with the original technique, but those who don't know it, or need to learn it first, have the option of accessing the ossia staves at the end of the piece. This is mainly intended for lessons at music schools. Guitar teachers like to use authentic material that sounds a bit "exotic" and "racy". But also autodidacts who just want to play a few "typical" flamenco pieces will have great fun practicing and performing.

All titles are original compositions.

The album is divided into two halves - notes and TAB. This allows more note/TAB lines to be displayed per page, ensuring smoother playing over fewer pages. The tablature is of course rhythmized, as in all my publications. As a preliminary exercise of each composition, the chords used in the piece and the required scale (range) can first be surveyed and played. Short, trilingual explanations at the beginning of each piece allow a better access to the respective flamenco style. The audio examples were recorded in my studio and animate through arrangement, sound and listening pleasure to replay. Especially the last piece for two guitars is very melodic and rhythmic.

GERHARD GRAF-MARTINEZ
Flamencolitos
(Book + Audio-Streaming, 96 S., Schell Music, ISBN 978-3-864-111945)
Gerhard Graf-Martinez is an author who has devoted himself entirely to flamenco and publishes not only instructional and repertoire books, but also corresponding software and iOS apps. His book 'Flamencolitos' offers six easy flamenco pieces for guitar, including two duos with additional rhythm accompaniment. The volume is divided into two parts, so to speak: In the first half is the standard notation, then all the pieces come again in tablature notation. The short introductory texts to each piece are printed in three languages: German, English and Spanish. The sheet music contains a sufficient number of fingering indications and playing hints, especially with regard to rhythm. In addition, chord symbols are included, which both provide a harmonic overview and make many parts easier to play from the known fingerings. For flamenco connoisseurs or at least players with some experience in this style, these may be "easy" pieces. In general, one should have some playing experience, because the material is quite demanding, even if - pedagogically motivated - the last percentages of playing speed and virtuosity were rightly omitted. Helpful are the audio examples available online, which can be streamed via the Vimeo platform and accessed via QR code or direct link. Good tape for flamenco aficionados.

A very nice book - the layout, the pieces - great! Finally some neatly notated and arranged easy flamenco pieces. Excellent for lessons.
